The cost of registering Amadeus is $3 per Macintosh upon which Amadeus is in use.
If you use Amadeus on ten or more Macintosh computers, I suggest buying a Site Licence for $30.
For a company of more than four sites, I suggest a World Licence costing $90.
Upgrading from older versions of Amadeus
If you have already registered any previous version of Amadeus for Kaleidoscope, you do not need to reregister or pay an upgrade fee. The latest version of Amadeus is always available from:
Shareware registrations for Amadeus for Kaleidoscope are handled by Kagi, a small company run by Kee Nethery that processes registrations for a growing number of authors. Kagi is not a software publisher, and does not provide technical support for Amadeus for Kaleidoscope. As the creator of Amadeus, that’s my job.
Registering Amadeus online
You can now register your copy of Amadeus online at the webpage above. It's quicker and more convenient than...
Registering Amadeus with Register
Your copy of Amadeus for Kaleidoscope should have come with a small application called Register, which helps you to create a customized registration form to send to Kagi Shareware. If you did not receive the Register application, please download a fresh, up-to-date, copy of the whole Amadeus for Kaleidoscope package from the webpage mentioned above.
Please use the registration form that Register creates, since payments sent without this form are harder for Kagi to figure out how to handle.
When you launch Register, it opens a window asking for all the necessary information. Type your name, postal address, and e-mail address in the corresponding boxes at the top of the window. To enable Kagi to contact you to confirm your registration, you need to provide an email or a postal address; we don’t do fax. If you don’t have an email address but do want confirmation of payment, you need to check the Postcard Receipt box in the bottom right of the window, which adds $1 to your charge to cover the cost.
Fill in the payment details at the bottom left of the window. Choose your method of payment from the comprehensive popup and complete the relevant information (credit card number, type of currency) below. Choose the number of copies of Amadeus you want to register and the number into the ‘Single User’ box. The ‘Site’ and ‘World-Wide’ checkboxes are intended for companies or organizations that want a license to use Amadeus on all their machines - an office of ten or more machines is best off buying a site license. If either of these boxes is checked, the cost is added to the cost of the number of single copies entered.
If you feel that the shareware program is worth more than the registration fee, you’re welcome to add a tip in the bonus box. Tipping is not mandatory; there is no additional service charge.
Once you have finished the form-filling, Register displays the total amount at the bottom right of the window. You then need to create a registration form by clicking one of the following three buttons:
• Print... prints a paper copy of the registration form, which you can then mail or post to Kagi Shareware.
• Copy... puts a copy of the registration form on your clipboard for you to paste into an email message to send to Kagi Shareware. This only works if you’re paying with a credit card, as it is not yet possible to email cash or checks.
• Save... saves a copy of the registration form to your hard disk as a SimpleText document for you to email later.
The Kagi Shareware email and postal addresses are included in this completed registration form, which is why I haven’t mentioned them here.
After you register, Kagi will send you an email thanking you for your payment. If you didn’t supply an email address but did check ‘Postcard Receipt’ because you wanted confirmation of payment, you’ll get a postcard thanking you through the mail.
Processing a registration payment can take Kagi Shareware up to a week after they receive it, plus delivery time taken by email or postal services. If you expected to receive confirmation by email or postcard by now but haven’t yet received it, contact Kagi Shareware at <mailto:support@kagi.com>, or at the postal address on the registration form, to ask them about it. Email can get destroyed and postal services have been known to lose mail; email addresses can be mistyped, too.
Once you have registered, you are considered registered for all future shareware versions of Amadeus for Kaleidoscope, so you do not need to reregister or pay any additional fees when you upgrade to a new version. You can always download the latest version from the webpage given above, or from other online services.
For further additional advice on how to pay for shareware and send starving authors your money, please see the very comprehensive ‘How to Register’ document that is included with Kaleidoscope for additional points not covered here.
